The Age of Aquarius—a prophecy of collective enlightenment—seems almost ironic in a world that hasn’t felt so divided. This so-called “Prophecy of Aquarius” places spiritual meaning on the astronomical precession of the equinoxes. Its a fascinating blend of astronomy, spirituality, and a vision of collective consciousness. It promises a new era of enlightenment and interconnection. A time when we, as a human species, are supposed to embrace unity. But what does that actually mean?
As the world divides further, nationalism rises, and countries see each other less as parts of a collective Earth and more as separate entities, outsiders, or even threats. Despite living in one of the safest eras in history with lower global conflict, it feels as if people are retreating inward, abandoning compassion. What changed? How did we reach a point where it feels like reaching out to help others is increasingly rare?
It’s easy to suspect fear as the culprit—fear of the unknown, of the “other,” of becoming an outsider. The world seems to be slipping into a frenzy of suspicion and self-preservation, pulling us further from the harmony promised by the Age of Aquarius. Just the other week, a man in downtown Seattle wielded a machete in a tragic spree of violence, seemingly embodying the growing chaos. He’s not alone—across the U.S. and the world, people are succumbing to darkness and hate.
But we must resist. Instead of descending into fear and anger, let’s rise into the light with love, compassion, and open hearts. We face a choice: welcome in hatred and fear or stand firmly against them, choosing unity and love. There is nothing divine in anger, division, or selfishness. I call on humanity to return to a celebration of joy, humanity, and peace. In the end, the Age of Aquarius calls us to be our highest selves, to choose unity in a world intent on division, and reject hatred in favor of compassion.
The future is uncertain, but if we’re to reach that Aquarian promise of enlightenment, we must begin with each other. Together, we can build a world of love, strength, and interconnected peace.
